The Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes

People with diabetes frequently exhibit
one or more of the following symptoms:

 
More frequent urination

Diabetes Risk Factors

Diabetes can occur in anyone, however, the following people have an increased tendency to develop Type 2, or adult-onset diabetes:

  • People who have close relatives with the disease
  • People who are over 40 and overweight
  • Women who developed diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes)
  • In general, the risk of developing diabetes increases as people grow older
Being very thirsty
Blurred vision
Weight loss
Increased hunger
Increased and/or unexplained sense of fatigue
Skin infections
Wounds don't heal easily
   

Diabetes is caused by too much sugar in your blood, and your doctor can test you for this. After testing your blood (for too much sugar), your doctor can tell if you have diabetes. Note that some people have few or none of the above symptoms. If you suspect you may have diabetes and have not been tested for it, you should discuss it with your primary healthcare provider.
